New Life Ministries
We have a team of people at ACC committed to reaching out to the elderly in our community.
Our ministry is called ‘New Life’ as our aim is to create environments where the love of Christ can be shared and experienced by anyone aged 60+.
The dictionary states, ‘New’ means fresh, different, something added – not worn out or exhausted ‘Life’ means energy, liveliness, vigour. So ‘ New Life’ is a place for the elderly of our community to come and experience something fresh, discover new things, gain a different outlook on life and make new friends. It’s a place to be energised and invigorated.
Our desire is that every person who joins us at New Life should hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and have the opportunity to respond to the message of Salvation. These people are in the latter years of life and our aim is that all should respond to him and know the peace and strength he can give at this vulnerable time in their lives and also that they might have peace in knowing that they will always be with the Lord, whether in life or death.
We also believe that God calls us to show his love in practical ways.
We do this by providing an environment where they can make new friendships and by taking time as a team to sit and talk and listen to their concerns. Food is served as an important part of our meeting together, providing nourishment for the body. Many elderly people live on ready meals and rarely enjoy a freshly cooked meal. We are pleased to be awarded the top rating of 5 stars by Dudley Borough health and Hygiene.
At a time when many local authority centres that once provided meeting places for the elderly are being closed due to financial pressures, many of our members say that we are their lifeline. For some it is their only trip out of the home and their only opportunity for friendship and socialising.
At present we have created two environments where this can take place.
Our members begin to arrive at about 11.30 am giving time for a cup of tea and a chat.
At 12.30 pm they are served a home cooked meal, nutritionally balanced including fresh vegetables and fruit.
After the meal we have a traditional church service where familiar hymns are sung, prayer is offered for those sick or in need, a bible reading and a short message.
Once a month we have entertainment which might be a visit from a local songsters group, a quiz, solo artist and much more
We end the day with time for another cup of tea and a chat before leaving at about 3 pm.
Cost – £4 (all inclusive)
We meet on the first Tuesday of every month between 10.30am – 2.00pm for a light meal and a ready supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. Bring your hobby with you or learn a new one.
