Flesh or Spirit – The great battle
In the passage above Paul goes on to explain to the Galatians the true nature of their Christian freedom. The truth of that freedom must be worked out in our lives as sons and daughters of God.
He discusses the conflict of Christian Experience – the battle that rages not just around us in the fallen world; but in us as we with our Fathers help put the ‘flesh to death’ and ‘live in the Spirit’. He introduces to the Galatians the concept of the fruit of the spirit – the character qualities and attitudes demonstrated by our Father God through his approach to redeeming and restoring us.
This week we will look at how we remain contending for the truth as we continue to live in this sinful and broken world. This is where the rubber hits the road, where the theory of Gospel life has to find its way into practice. Where we must invest in the things of the spirit not in the things of the flesh and aspire to be more Christ like in every aspect of our lives.
