AMBLECOTE YOUTH TASTE FAIR TRADE CHOCOLATE
Posted by acc on October 24th, 2008
On Sunday 19th of October the Storm Youth team heard about the plight of children used as slaves in coco plantations in Africa. Marion Lowe and Steven Cook facilitated an interactive learning session on the production of coco and its use in the chocolate industry. Over 16000 children work 12 hour days for little or no income in coco plantations. The live in horrific conditions and are frequently beaten for poor productivity. Marion and Steve explained that the only chocolate guaranteed to be free form child labor is fair-trade.
Everyone then tried a wide range of chocolate from different fair-trade produces. As you can imaging this went down very well! If you want more information email Marion at amelowe@blueyonder.co.uk
