“The challenge early christians faced was one built on thousands of years of cultural and racial devision between Jews and Gentiles. So extreme a devision, arguably we still see it today in anti-semitism the world over. At the time of Christ jews had built themselves a wall around the Temple and God, inscribed with death threats to all Gentiles who would dare to come near.
Paul overcomes and tackles this deep division through displaying Christ as the solution. More than simply overcoming the hostility and making a fragile peace between two peoples, Christ tears down the division between jew and gentile and makes one new people, his Church.
This Sunday we’ll explore how Christ has made one people, and in whom He now dwells. Ephesians says that now we are the temple and are built as living stones on the foundation of christ’s teaching, set and bound together by Christ as cornerstone.
We’ll also talk about how this issue manifests in our time, in our hearts, and how this same solution of Christ as peacemaker can resolve the hostility between us.
Look forward to stories of walls and conflict from ancient Mesopotamia, South Africa and the jungles of world war two. See you on Sunday! ”
