In the first week of the school summer holidays about 35 of us headed off to North Devon to enjoy a holiday together. Most of us were camping, with a couple of people staying in some sturdier accommodation off-site! With the security of a good weather forecast behind us we pitched up on Sunday afternoon, staying for five nights.
It was as fantastic time away –the weather was excellent (we spent a couple of days on the beach), the field we were in was pretty much our own (so the kids could charge around playing non-stop), the campsite was brilliant. Where we were had wonderful peaceful views – there is something special about waking up in the morning in a beautiful part of nature. We were able to relax in our different ways through the days, but also enjoy plenty of time together talking, laughing and primarily eating. Whether it was Eshan’s marinated chicken and lamb BBQ or Terry’s cheese night, there was usually plenty of good food around.
I always think you get to know one another in a different way when you’re away on holiday together and this week was further proof that this is indeed the case. It was lovely to have plenty of time with one another (and great to have help to pack your tent down)! Some personal highlights include: rowing out in the bay of Combe Martin on Eshun’s blow-up dinghy and seeing Marie catch crabs for 3 hours with the kids (she is a professional crabber!).
We’ll definitely be heading off again next year back to the same place, from the 19th-24th July 2020 for a bargain price of £25 a night, so if you’d like to join us, get in touch with me.
